The English top-flight has grown increasingly popular in recent years, especially in America and much of Asia. Every other season, a pre-season tournament pits three Premier League sides against a team from Asia. In terms of fan base, two Premier League clubs stand out. These are Manchester United and Liverpool.
Manchester United
Manchester United is the most popular football club in the UK, with fans of all ages and backgrounds attending home games. They have a more impressive trophy cabinet than their rivals, with 66 trophies to City's 28. The Manchester clubs have won more Premier League titles, with United having won seven and City four, but they have more FA Cups and League Cups. In total, the clubs have won 22 Premier League titles and six FA Cups. They also have a bigger stadium, which gives them a global appeal.
Liverpool
In the United States, Liverpool has the most fans of any Premier League club, according to a recent survey by Morning Consult. The study asked self-identified Premier League fans about Liverpool's popularity, and it found that 3 in 5 of them had a positive opinion of the team. That's a higher percentage than the one in five Americans who have a favorable view of the team.
Tottenham Hotspur
There are several factors to consider when determining which Premier League team has the most fans. Support is as important as success in the game, and the top teams are often supported the most. However, there are some variables that can affect fan support, including the level of support that fans give a team on social media and the number of people who are interested in a particular team.
Newcastle United
While the fans of Newcastle United may not be the biggest in the world, they are among the most passionate and intense. It is common to see a packed St. James' Park stadium during home games. In fact, it is often more full than that of nearby rivals Sunderland and Middlesbrough.
Watford
Watford Football Club is the most popular team in the Premier League, with their loyal fans ranging from young children to retirees. Founded in 1881, the club originally played in the Southern League before joining the Football League in 1920. However, it did not reach the top flight until 1982. Initially known as Watford Rovers, the club changed its name to West Hertfordshire before finally becoming Watford in 1898.
Crystal Palace
Crystal Palace's fans hail from South London, Kent, and Surrey. Until 1963, the club's home ground at Selhurst Park was in Surrey. However, the area was reclassified in the 1960s and became part of Greater London. The club has a strong rivalry with Brighton & Hove Albion, Millwall, and Charlton Athletic.
Leicester City
Leicester City fans are the biggest in the Premier League, with a following of over two million. However, the team has a turbulent past. In recent seasons, it has been hit by a succession of managers including Claude Puel and Craig Shakespeare. While both failed to infuse modernity into the team, the new manager, Brendan Rodgers, has been able to turn Leicester into one of the most successful Premier League sides in recent years.
